The Exodus is Here

La Plena ~ Rafael Tufino
.
This piece is depicting the famous song called "Le Cortaron a Elena" - "They cut Elena," which can be interpreted as the struggles of life, poverty, and the wonderful rhythms that death may bring, which is also echoed in the sarcastic and political poem by Miguel Piñero.
.
(Interesting piece, kinda reminds me of the murals at Denver International)

Purpleaura and I had a couple of dreams last weekend that left us feeling a large loss of life was looming on the horizon. Another this morning is leading me to believe it could be in Puerto Rico.

Purpleaura ~ March 16, 2008

I was in my house getting ready for bed and saw a small lizard on the wall. I’m thinking, “How on earth did that get in the house?” when I knew everything was closed up tightly. Suddenly it seemed that every where I looked another animal would appear. I was ok with the animals materializing, but I really hate spiders and thought if that happens, I’m not going to be at all comfortable with a spider crawling around in my bedroom. I figured there must be a small hole somewhere in the room because up until this point they were all small animals. I looked under the bed and saw nothing so I hopped in the bed and suddenly a deer appears (that throws out the small hole theory). I wondered why all the earth animals were coming to me in my room and thought about Noah’s Ark and then woke up.

I have to preface this one by saying I watched Apocolypto Saturday night so the Mayans were most assuredly on my mind. I know many still believe the antiquated notion that dreams are a manifestation of daily thoughts and occurrences. That’s the scientific community talking and they don’t like to believe in anything they can’t explain with their limited resources. They seem to be turning a blind eye to the many people who dream about things they’ve never heard of, people they haven’t met yet or places they’ve never been. With that said, although I had Mayans on the brain before I fell asleep, I believe this dream was more than a simple association to the previous evening’s entertainment. Also while watching the movie I was reminded of the mystery surrounding Maya blue, which is a fairly new subject for me.

Science : Quantum secrets of Maya blue

ARCHAEOLOGISTS visiting the Mayan ruins at Chichén Itzá in Yucatán, Mexico, have always been struck by the vivid blue paint appearing repeatedly in murals and on pottery. Now a team of Mexican scientists has found out why the colour survived centuries of heat and moisture without fading. The research may even help in the today's quest for brighter and more durable paints.

In the dream I was flying over an area and spotted thousands of people dressed in animal skins and your general tribal gear, (feathers and the like), all heading in the same direction alongside a road. What was weird is that as far as the eye could see there was not one other sign of civilization. It made me feel I was seeing the earth in its infancy, but yet there were all these people and an asphalt road in the middle of nowhere. The line down the middle of the road was painted red instead of yellow or white, and planted along the line were a bunch of blue cubes, each mounted on a piece of wire. The farther away I looked the farther apart the cubes were, which apparently meant something but I don't know what. Something told me space ships were coming to get the people and the road was actually a runway. I said to myself, "Oh, so that's what happened to the Mayans". Then I heard "THE EXODUS IS HERE", so loud it woke me up.

When I read Purpleaura’s dream, the first thought that came to mind was all the animals that retreated from the shoreline just before the boxing day tsunami. So between her need to gather the animals and the exodus I witnessed, we felt something was up. After reading the dream I had, Purpleaura felt the same way.

Something isn’t right, I wonder why all the gathering. Something big is going to happen big time, (I was going to say "hit" big time), could be an earthquake, tsunami…something that’s going to cause a mass exodus of people and animals.

Then this morning I dreamt I saw two men, one dressed in painter’s overalls, crouched down examining a pile of rubble in the parking lot of a local hotel called The Cecil. The rubble was a mix of driftwood, buoys and other items from the ocean such as seaweed. The man in the overalls could see me and I sensed he was trying to get my attention. All of a sudden I heard “Puerto Rico” and woke up at 4:20 with the theme from Cheers playing.

I knew the remains of what looked like a flood were not related to Calgary since the closest ocean is over 1,000 kilometres away. The river’s not too far from The Cecil but the banks at that point are fairly high and we’ve had little precipitation this year. It seemed the odds of it overflowing now or in the near future were quite slim, so I’m not sure what the Cecil reference is.

When I got to work I searched Google news for Puerto Rico and the first story was this:

Puerto Rico Painter Tufino Dies at 85

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Painter Rafael Tufino, who became a major Puerto Rican cultural figure with his depictions of traditional island life, has died at age 85, prompting two days of official mourning in the territory.

He died March 13th but this was the first I’d heard of it, having no idea who this man was prior to this morning. I wondered if that’s who I saw, and if so, why? Was this a time stamp? Like somebody trying to tell me, “Look out for this thing and after that, this other thing is going to happen”

I checked the news periodically throughout the day but this was still the first story listed. I looked again when I got home and currently the top stories for Puerto Rico are the golf tournament this weekend, AT & T launching a new ad campaign, and a storm brewing expected to create up to 30-foot waves.

Storm expected to create up to 30-foot waves in Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) - An Atlantic storm threatens to pummel Puerto Rico and other islands with waves as high as 30 feet (9 meters) beginning late Wednesday, forcing tourists and other Holy Week vacationers to seek alternatives to the beach.

The storm spawned tornadoes and thunderstorms across the southern United States last weekend before gaining strength over the open water, said Israel Matos, director of the U.S. Caribbean territory's National Weather Service.

“It's not a tsunami, but we need to take the same precaution”, he said, warning the storm could damage coastal roads and low-lying homes.

There’s a few other stories relating to Puerto Rico that are now out-shadowing the death of Rafael Tufino, namely a tennis tournament and some Clinton high jinks:

Today, Hillary Clinton released a policy agenda to put more policemen in Puerto Rico, bring universal health care to the island, create new jobs and work to have the federal government give up land on Vieques island, where the Navy formerly operated a bombing range. Her plan today is also designed to lift the cap on Medicaid there, and to extend President Bush’s latest budget proposal to include aid to Puerto Ricans.

“As first lady and senator from New York—with a million constituents of Puerto Rican origin and people moving back and forth—she has worked closely with Puerto Rican leaders,” the campaign said in a statement.

Puerto Rico holds its nominating contest on June 1 and carries 55 delegates. And though Gov. Anibal Acevedo has endorsed Barack Obama, Clinton is favored there due to her strength among Hispanic and Catholic voters.

Purpleaura just sent this email:

The other night for some reason I was thinking about what would happen if water hit. I thought, well I havent got a boat and boats tip over, then I saw a vision of a plastic bubble like a hamster ball, but you can get inside of it and roll on the water.
Would you believe it I just turned on BBC America TV and there's a news piece about exactly that. 2 men were in the swimming baths, each one in a plastic bubble, and it even mentioned a hamster ball. Apparently somebody decided this was great exercise. They said it was weird walking on water and they had trouble standing up in it. So something is defintely up on the water theme.

Here's to hoping we're all wrong (us and the weather guy from Puerto Rico).
